Larry Fitzgerald Comments on Richard Sherman Covering Him in Week 10

Joe PantornoNov 13, 2015

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is enjoying a resurgence of sorts this season, leading the team with 55 receptions, 706 yards and seven touchdowns. With a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks looming in Week 10, he will likely face the challenge of being covered by cornerback Richard Sherman.

Fitzgerald spoke with AZCardinals.com's Kyle Odegard about being shadowed by Sherman, which he joked would be a waste of Sherman's time.

"I haven't had 1,000 [receiving] yards in three years," he said. "I hope he doesn't follow me. Old, grizzly, washed-up veteran. Go follow Mike [Floyd] or something, or Smoke [John Brown]."

While it's true Fitzgerald has experienced subpar seasons in recent years by his standards, he is on pace for much more than 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. But he still holds a lot of respect for Sherman, as he told Kent Somers of AZCentral.com.

"As good as they come," Fitzgerald said of Sherman. "Just in terms of his skill level and ability. Then you couple that with his intelligence, he's really, really special. You really don't see any holes in his game."

Sherman will have to shut down Fitzgerald if the Seahawks want a chance of coming back in the NFC West. The 6-2 Cardinals hold a two-game lead over the Seahawks and St. Louis Rams, both 4-4. A three-game hole would be difficult to climb out of.

Fitzgerald, though, is just a part of a dynamic Cardinals offense that ranks third in the NFL with 417.4 total yards per game. So even if Sherman does cover and shut him down, there's a good chance another Cardinal will take the opportunity to produce in Week 10.
