David Bass Fined for Hit on Drew Brees: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
Tennessee Titans linebacker David Bass has been fined $17,363 for his illegal hit on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees on Sunday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Jim Wyatt of Titans Online confirmed the report, and added Bass plans to appeal the punishment.
The hit ultimately required Brees to receive stitches in his jaw, per Schefter.
Bass, 25, has registered six tackles and an interception this season. In two-and-a-half NFL seasons between the Chicago Bears and Titans, he's accumulated 39 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble. The Titans claimed him off of waivers this September, and he's carved a niche for himself in Tennessee.

His illegal hit against Brees was nearly costly on more than one front, however, as linebacker Brian Orakpo was flagged for a double unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the play after vehemently arguing the call. That set the Saints up with a 1st-and-goal that Brees converted into a touchdown pass to Michael Hoomanawanui to give the Saints a 28-20 lead.
The Titans would go on to win 34-28 in overtime, however.
The team was flagged for several roughing the passer and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during the game, something it will need to clear up going forward under interim head coach Mike Mularkey. The Titans were able to overcome them Sunday, but it certainly isn't a recipe for success.
