Fantasy Football Week 10: Buying or Selling Top Injured Players

Steven CookNov 12, 2015

There's nothing more frustrating in the world of NFL fantasy football than seeing that dreaded "Q" next to a notable player's name.

That, of course, denotes a player who is questionable throughout the week with one injury or another. But in the ever-transparent landscape of the league, more details are typically out there to help owners decide whether to take a chance on their injured players in the lineup.

It's not always wise to take the gamble, so let's buy and sell some of the notable injured players for Week 10.

Buy: Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit Lions

Owners of Calvin Johnson have received reason for concern coming off the Detroit Lions' Week 9 bye, as he's been limited in practice this week with an ankle injury, per the team.

But Johnson is expected to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10, per Josh Katzenstein of the Detroit News, and that should have owners plugging him into the lineup. "Feeling pretty good right now," Johnson said. "I got a lot of good work done to it, and then the downtime helps us with getting that thing back to feeling good."

A matchup with the Packers shouldn't worry his owners, as 6-2 Green Bay has been gashed on defense in two straight games and has given up 20 or more points in three straight.

Sell: Eddie Lacy, RB, Green Bay Packers

Folks who nabbed Eddie Lacy with a first-round draft pick have to be feeling snakebitten by his inexplicably bad season, and injury isn't the only thing keeping him from relevance.

A breakout by James Starks is also taking away from his production, as head coach Mike McCarthy announced this week that Starks is now the lead back over Lacy in the offense, per ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky. He appears long recovered from the groin injury that kept him out earlier in the season, but that doesn't seem to matter at this point.

Buy: Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers

A nagging ankle injury has kept Jonathan Stewart on the injury report over the last couple of weeks as a limited practice participant. But that typically means a player will be ready to go for Sunday, and that should be the case with Stewart.

When it comes down to it, the Carolina Panthers have a run-heavy offense that gives Stewart plenty of touches. Actually, plenty may be an understatement—he's carried 20 or more times in each of the last four games.

The Tennessee Titans are surprisingly stout against the run, but that won't have the Panthers shying away from their identity as they establish Stewart on the ground again.

Sell: John Brown, WR, Arizona Cardinals

Hamstring injuries tend to take a lot of time to heal from in regard to wide receivers, and Arizona Cardinals receiver John Brown has learned that the hard way in 2015.

The second-year pro caught just four passes in his last outing, after which he missed all of the Cardinals' 34-20 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. A bye week has allowed Brown to heal and be a limited practice participant, per the team, but he's due for a poor Week 10 outing either way.

The opponent Sunday is the Seattle Seahawks, who have proved stout in pass defense in the last several games after a sluggish start. Seattle gave up a combined nine points in two games against Arizona last season.
