Charlie Whitehurst Cut by Titans: Latest Comments and Reaction
The Tennessee Titans released veteran quarterback Charlie Whitehurst on Wednesday to make room on the roster for running back David Cobb, who's returning from injury, according to Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com.
Starting quarterback Marcus Mariota called Whitehurst "an unbelievable guy and a good leader" upon his release, per Terry McCormick of TitansInsider.com.
Whitehurst, 33, was the team's third-string option behind Mariota and backup Zach Mettenberger this season, though he was active for just two games. He appeared in seven games for the team last year (five starts), throwing for 1,326 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

For his career, he's thrown for 2,131 yards, 10 touchdowns and six picks in stints with the San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and the Titans.
For teams looking to add a veteran backup, Whitehurst is an appealing option. Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports believes the Indianapolis Colts will have interest with Andrew Luck sidelined, though other teams with waiver claims ahead of them, including the Houston Texans, may beat them to the punch.
