Randy Bullock to Jets: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

Tyler ConwayNov 10, 2015

Nick Folk's year is over, and Randy Bullock's season is beginning again. The New York Jets placed Folk on injured reserve Tuesday and announced they signed Bullock as his replacement.

Folk, 31, injured his right quadriceps in Sunday's 28-23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coach Todd Bowles said he was expected to miss four to six weeks, but the team instead placed him on injured reserve to clear a roster spot, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

Bullock, 25, was one of four kickers (Billy Cundiff, Garrett Hartley and Kyle Brindza being the others) who worked out for the Jets on Monday, per Cimini. Hartley and Bullock were the two finalists, per ESPN.com's Adam Schefter. The former fifth-round pick had an inside track with management, as Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan was in the Houston Texans organization when he was drafted. Bullock served as the Texans' primary kicker in 2013 and 2014 and began 2015 as the starter before being let go after three games.

A career 80.3 percent kicker, Bullock's departure from Houston was largely related to his struggles on extra points. He missed two of his first five during the regular season before being replaced by Nick Novak.

The Jets will hope Bullock returns to his 2014 form, when he hit 30 of 35 field goals, including 11 of 13 from beyond 40 yards. If he's over his jitters on the new 33-yard extra point, the Jets may actually wind up with an upgrade at the position.
