Liverpool Transfer News: Cristian Tello Ordered by Jurgen Klopp, Top Rumours

Christopher SimpsonNov 10, 2015

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has set his sights on Barcelona's Cristian Tello and has instructed the club's hierarchy to pursue the winger.

That's according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t the Daily Star's Jamie Anderson), which noted Klopp has identified Tello for the Reds' transfer committee while Barcelona are prepared to offload the Spaniard, currently spending his second season on loan at Porto.

Anderson further reports the Blaugrana find themselves in a difficult financial situation—the solution for which involved allowing a number of personnel to depart. Anderson shared the following quotes from former president Joan Laporta on Radio Monte Carlo:

"The situation isn’t good and to balance the accounts [current president Josep Maria] Bartomeu will have to sell players or other assets. The best solution is to sell big players."

While Tello is hardly a "big player" for the Catalan giants, he will nevertheless almost certainly be among those to leave the club in the summer, with Fichajes (h/t Anderson) noting a permanent return to Porto is unlikely.

The 24-year-old has just two goals and one assists to his name in all competitions this season, but last year he impressed with eight and 11 respectively.

Prior to his temporary switch to Porto, football journalist Rafael Hernandez noted he had not made the grade at Barca:

Nevertheless, he could make a useful acquisition for Liverpool, who have yet to replace Raheem Sterling on the wing. The pacey La Masia graduate still has much to offer and could thrive under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds are also targeting another Blaugrana player—goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, according to Fichajes (h/t Metro's Jamie Sanderson).

Ter Stegen is one of the most likely candidates to serve as Germany's long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer and the 23-year-old is already impressing for Barca as their cup and Champions League stopper.

The prospect of more regular playing time at Anfield could prove persuasive, so Liverpool have a decent chance of landing the youngster.

Barca would undoubtedly be reluctant to part with their rising star, though their financial situation could dictate the matter for them.
