Wayne Rooney Slaps Wrestler Wade Barrett at WWE Manchester

Maybe the pressure has finally taken its toll on Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United striker was in attendance at WWE Raw at Manchester Arena on Monday night and copped a fair bit of abuse from Wade Barrett.

"I'd hate for your little boy to sit there and watch his own father fail. Because let's face it, he gets to experience that every single time you step on a football pitch," was the opening line from Barrett.

Rooney has been under the microscope after a stuttering start to the season under Louis van Gaal but scored in last week's Champions League win over CSKA Moscow.

His reaction was to slap the wrestler, and thanks to the wonderful world of Twitter, went viral shortly afterwards.

And yes, Wayne Rooney slapping a professional wrestler is as entertaining as it sounds.

England's record goalscorer was all smiles on Instagram after the event, but Barrett's response might have him a bit worried.

"Your days are numbered", he warned after threatening to head to Old Trafford on Tuesday and "settle this once and for all".

Thankfully for Rooney, international week may have spared him.
