NFL Week 10 Predictions: Projections for the Early Lines, Spreads and Odds

Rex Ryan likes to circle certain dates on the NFL calendar. No matter which team he is coaching, he can't wait to play the New England Patriots.

But now that he's leading the Buffalo Bills, you can be sure that Sunday's game against the New York Jets will be one of his biggest days.

Ryan coached the Jets from 2009 through 2014, and while that part of his coaching career started off well as the Jets reached the AFC Championship Game two years in a row, the Jets never scaled those heights again. 

Ryan seemed to know that his coaching career with the Jets would come to an end after the 2014 season, because the Jets went a pitiful 4-12 and were often beaten badly. Two of their worst defeats came at the hands of the Buffalo Bills, who were far more physical and aggressive.

Now Ryan is coaching that team that beat the Jets so badly. While the Bills have flashed quite a bit of talent this year with LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins and quarterback Tyrod Taylor, they have not been consistent. After beating the Miami Dolphins in Week 9, the Bills are just 4-4, and they are one game behind the 5-3 New York Jets.

The Bills travel to MetLife Stadium, and they are three-point underdogs, according to Odds Shark. However, when it comes to flat-out talent, the Bills seem to have the edge.

Not only do they have more stars on the offensive side, they also have Mario Williams, Jerry Hughes and Marcell Dareus. These were the same players that helped end the Ryan era in New York.

The last thing Ryan needs to do is try to charge his team up by telling his players how much this game means to him. They already know that.

He would be best off devising a game plan that lets them take advantage of their physical gifts. We think that's just what Ryan will do.

The Bills may be underdogs in this game, but look for them to win on the road because they have the better players.

Todd Bowles is an excellent coach for the Jets, but players like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Chris Ivory are hard-working overachievers. That won't help them get the best of the Bills talent.

Charitable Saints will give another one away in Washington

The Saints were on a pretty good roll heading into their Week 9 home game against the befuddled Tennessee Titans. That team had lost every game it had played after a win in Week 1 and had fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt.

The Saints had won three games in a row, and quarterback Drew Brees had found his stride. He had thrown a record-tying seven touchdown passes in the Saints' Week 8 52-49 win over New York, and they seemed a sure thing to make it four in a row in a game against the reeling Titans.

But the Saints proved to be nothing but bullies. When Tennessee played hard for interim head coach Mike Mularkey and hit the Saints back after New Orleans had taken an early lead, the Titans kept fighting and won the game in overtime.

Now the Saints must go to Washington, another team that has learned to fight this year with head coach Jay Gruden and quarterback Kirk Cousins providing the leadership.

The Redskins know what it's like to face the best team in the league, as they dropped a 27-10 decision at New England. While they could not climb back into the game after New England forged a two-TD lead at halftime, the Redskins fought for 60 minutes. 

Cousins threw 40 passes in the game and completed 22, and he was intercepted just once. He did not appear intimidated.

The Redskins will be relieved to come home and get a chance to take on a bunch of bullies like the Saints. Look for Washington to come up with a key win at home.

Chiefs will keep it close at Mile High

In the closing moments of their Week 2 game at Kansas City, it looked like the Chiefs would pull off a 24-17 victory when running back Knile Davis scored on an eight-yard run with slightly over two minutes remaining.

The Kansas City defense had held Peyton Manning and the Denver offense in check for most of the game, and a rally seemed like a dubious proposition.

However, Manning led the Broncos on a game-tying, 10-play, 80-yard drive that culminated with his 19-yard TD pass to Emmanuel Sanders. Seconds after that touchdown, Bradley Roby returned a fumble 21 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

The Chiefs went into shock and lost five games in a row before finally emerging from that funk with two consecutive wins.

The Broncos had won their first seven games before losing in Week 9 at Indianapolis. Manning played a key role in that defeat with two interceptions.

The Broncos have been winning all year with defense, and they had found a way to overcome Manning's interceptions. He now has 13 for the year.

But that may be starting to turn, and the Chiefs would like to give the Broncos a little payback on Sunday. They are getting seven points, and look for quarterback Alex Smith and his rested teammates to keep this game close if they don't win it.
