Arsenal Transfer News: Major Grzegorz Krychowiak Blow, Latest Gunners Rumours

Rob BlanchetteNov 6, 2015

Arsenal target Grzegorz Krychowiak has opted to sign a new deal with Sevilla, dashing the Gunners' chances of taking the defensive midfielder from the La Liga team.

The Spanish side confirmed they have tied down the Poland international on their official website, as journalist Rafael Hernandez confirmed:

The inclusion of a hefty release clause should see off the interest of any suitor after the 25-year-old committed his future to the Andalusia outfit for a further four years.

Fichajes.net (h/t George Bellshaw of Metro) previously confirmed discussions had begun between player and club over a new deal, as a host of teams lined up to court Krychowiak.

Arsenal's issues were highlighted on Wednesday as the team's soft centre allowed Bayern Munich the opportunity to plunder five goals in a Champions League demolition.

Krychowiak is the type of player coach Arsene Wenger needs, but he will be disappointed the Pole appears to be content at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.

The midfielder only joined Los Rojiblancos back in 2014, and a switch to north London has now decreased in probability.

The player made 44 starts in La Liga and Europe for Sevilla last season, and his consistency brought him to the attention of many elite clubs.

Alistair Tweedale of the Telegraph explained why the Gunners would want Krychowiak:

"

Krychowiak is the main ball-winner in Unai Emery’s Sevilla team, with his 82 tackles won the third highest tally of any player in the Spanish top flight last season, winning the ball at an impressive 77 per cent success rate.

He has a fantastic reading of the game, making 97 interceptions in his 32 appearances. He is also a force in the air, winning 109 aerial duels at a success rate of 73 per cent – a higher rate than any other player to compete in at least 60 aerial battles.

"

Wenger will now have to look elsewhere for potential January recruits:

Arsenal will compete with Lazio for the signature of young Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, as the Italian champions reportedly prepare for interest in January.

News outlet Sport Mediaset (h/t Football-Italia.net) said the Rome club want Rugani after losing Stefan De Vrij to long-term injury, but Calciomercato.com claim the Gunners are also monitoring the player's situation.

The 21-year-old is one of the hottest defensive prospects in Serie A, but he has been consigned to the Old Lady's bench this season.

Sport Mediaset (h/t Football Italia) believe Juve might be willing to let the defender leave on loan, allowing him to get playing time elsewhere.

Wenger resisted strengthening his outfield defensive options in the summer, and that choice has already started to hurt Arsenal's campaign, despite it only being November.

The Gunners are on the edge of Champions League elimination, and the crushing 5-1 defeat against Bayern could see their house of cards collapse in the Premier League if their confidence evaporates.

Krychowiak would have been the perfect addition in the January transfer window, but with his name removed from the list, Wenger needs to find a player who can add steel to his squad.
