Recap
Isner took a closely contested first set on a tiebreaker, where opportunities to break proved few and far between for both players and neither were able to take the chances they had.
The American earned two break points in the opening game of the second set, as things looked to be going from bad to worse for Federer, but the Swiss star remained as composed as ever to hold before levelling the scores fairly comfortably, though Isner continued to contest each point, as noted by Tennis TV:
The final set followed a similar pattern to the first, with both players holding serve right up to a tiebreaker. Isner raced to a 6-2 lead to earn himself four match points, and despite the world No. 2's valiant efforts to save three of them, he was just able to hold out and take a huge scalp.
Following a crushing victory over Borna Coric on Wednesday, Murray looked unstoppable heading into his clash with Goffin.
So it proved, as the Scot came flying out of the blocks with an early break to move into a 3-0 lead before the 16th seed finally got a game on the board.
However, it was to be Goffin's only game of the match, as he was comprehensively outplayed by the world No. 3.

Serving for the set at 5-1 up, Murray saved a break point before sealing the opener in 25 minutes when Goffin went long after a lengthy rally.
The Brit's returning was typically fantastic. He fought back from 0-40 down in the first game of the second set to seal another break of serve and go 1-0 up. A double-break saw him move to 3-0, and a third handed him the opportunity to serve for the match.
He duly completed the romp with a service hold to love, firing a backhand winner down the line to seal another comfortable victory.
Murray will now face Richard Gasquet in the last eight, after the Frenchman came through his Thursday match against Kei Nishikori, the sixth seed retiring with an injury at a set and 4-1 down.
Djokovic was tested early on against Simon and was surprisingly broken by the 14th seed to go 2-1 down.
However, he came storming back to win four games in a row, as he found his rhythm and eventually served out the opener, 6-3, as noted TennisTV:
The second set saw Simon put Djokovic's serve under huge pressure, but the Serbian responded in kind to produce an extraordinary spectacle.
The first seven games of the second set all went against the serve before Djokovic finally held to move 5-3 ahead.
He almost broke again to seal the match, but Simon pounced on an uncharacteristically telegraphed Djokovic drop shot to get back in the game.
Djokovic was forced to serve for the set, but Simon broke the Serbian's serve again to tie it up at 5-5.
It was an incredibly resilient performance from the Nice-born player, but he eventually crumbled, as Djokovic broke again and then held serve to seal the match in 96 minutes.
Fifth seed Tomas Berdych was fairly comfortable in his two-set victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, allowing the Frenchman just one chance to break in the entire match.

Tsonga duly converted his only opportunity, but a strong performance by the Czech earned him the right to take on Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
Nadal was forced to work extremely hard to overcome Anderson. The South African took the first set thanks to an early break and in a tiebreaker in the second had a match point, but Nadal showed incredible fight, per TennisTV:
From there the momentum swung and the Spaniard was in control, pulling level before breaking Anderson in the opening set of the decider, and Nadal subsequently saw out the win while saving all six break point opportunities that came his opponent's way.
David Ferrer squeezed past Grigor Dimitrov in three sets after losing the opener on a tiebreak. The Spaniard roared back into contention with a 6-1 win in the second set before edging out his opponent in a hard-fought decider.
Wawrinka overcame Troicki in straight sets, edging the first as the pair exchanged breaks by ruthlessly taking both opportunities that came his way.
A similarly tight second set saw the fourth seed take it 7-5 as he showed great resilience in fending off five of six break points.
