Manchester United Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo 2016 Prediction Fuels Rumours

Rory MarsdenNov 4, 2015

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo "dreams" of returning to Manchester United and told a Los Blancos teammate in 2014 that he saw himself back at Old Trafford in two years' time, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

As reported by Tom Sheen in the Independent, the Portuguese has been consistently linked with a return to United in the last couple of seasons. Revelations from Balague's new book, which was released on Thursday, will only serve to fuel rumours that Ronaldo could return to Old Trafford in 2016.

In Cristiano Ronaldo: The Biography, Balague indicates United remain firmly in the 30-year-old's heart and that he has considered a return to the club he left in 2009 (via Sky Sports):

Cristiano Ronaldo still dreams of returning to Manchester United. The English club informed his agent in 2013 that they have enough financial power to secure his return.

In fact, everything has been in place since his departure in case both parties decide to take that step

In summer 2014 he told a Real Madrid player who was about to leave Los Blancos that he saw himself at United in two years' time.

Despite the fact Ronaldo will be 31 in February, he would still demand a staggering transfer fee if Real were to sell him in 2016.

He is contracted at the Bernabeu until 2018, and the La Liga giants will be loath to let him go given that he is still their most important attacking threat.

In fact, the latest reports suggest he may go for £100 million, a £20 million increase on the record fee Real paid United for him.

However, the Red Devils are reportedly set to be pipped by French giants Paris Saint-Germain for Ronaldo's signature next summer, per Antony Kastrinakis in the Sun.

The reports suggests there is already an agreement between Madrid president Florentino Perez and PSG owner Sheikh Al Thani to let Ronaldo move to the Parc des Princes for around £100 million in the summer.

The former Sporting Lisbon star further fuelled speculation surrounding his links to PSG on Tuesday. His whispered conversation with PSG boss Laurent Blanc after the French club had lost to Real in the Champions League had tongues wagging, per #66 Sports:

It seems Ronaldo has a good relationship with the PSG hierarchy, as he also made a point of greeting PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi after Tuesday's match, as seen on Spanish TV show El Chiringuito (via Marca).

It's a potential blow for United in their reported attempts to lure Ronaldo back to the Premier League.

As Balague notes, it does not make a huge amount of sense for Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford given he has already won everything with United.

However, it is not out of the question he could move on to PSG, where he could become a legend at a new club and be handsomely rewarded financially for his troubles.
