Shaun Draughn to 49ers: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Joseph ZuckerNov 2, 2015

With the San Francisco 49ers gutted by injuries to their backfield, they agreed to terms with running back Shaun Draughn to help remedy the issue. Draughn's agent, Sean Stellato, confirmed the news to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 49ers would later announce the news.

In the space of a few hours, the 49ers watched both Reggie Bush and Mike Davis exit Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Head coach Jim Tomsula announced Monday that Bush will have an MRI to determine how long he might be out, while Davis is dealing with a hand injury, per the team's Twitter account.

That's in addition to the stress fracture keeping Carlos Hyde out at the moment too.

Draughn could conceivably start for the Niners on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, but his underwhelming track record so far in the NFL—75 carries, 264 yards and two touchdowns—might lead to Kendall Gaskins getting the nod.

Draughn isn't an optimal replacement for the trio of injured running backs, but he's the best San Francisco could hope to snag in free agency at this point in the season.
