Jose Mourinho Reportedly to Receive Lawsuit from Former Chelsea Dr Eva Carneiro

Matt JonesNov 2, 2015

Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro is reportedly set to take legal action against Blues manager Jose Mourinho, as well as the football club itself.

According to the Press Association (h/t the Guardian), the Portuguese coach will be the subject of an “individual legal claim” from Carneiro, who left the club earlier this season. The piece also notes Carneiro is taking action against Chelsea for alleged “constructive dismissal.”

Martyn Ziegler of the Press Association confirmed the lawsuit for Mourinho will be separate but linked to the one served against Chelsea and explained what the Blues boss could be liable for:

The former team doctor was criticised by Mourinho after an incident on the opening day of the season, during which she attended to Eden Hazard late in the match against Swansea City alongside head physio Jon Fearn after being called onto the pitch by referee Michael Oliver.

With Chelsea already down to 10 men, Hazard had to be temporarily removed from the playing field, leaving the manager unashamedly irate on the sideline. Mourinho branded his medical staff as “impulsive and naive,” per BBC Sport, after the match, and Carneiro subsequently had her role demoted before leaving the club in late September.

Mourinho was recently cleared of using discriminatory language toward his former colleague by the Football Association. Carneiro has since claimed the FA did not converse with her as part of that investigation.

It’s been a miserable season for Mourinho both on and off of the pitch. The Chelsea boss was hit with a £50,000 fine and a suspended one-match stadium ban recently after being critical of referees. In a bizarre post-match interview on Saturday with BT Sport, the Portuguese repeated “I have nothing to say” when asked about his side’s poor display against Liverpool.

The Blues have lost six of their last 11 Premier League matches and are currently languishing down in 15th place in the table. Leaders Manchester City are a whopping 14 points ahead of Mourinho’s side after 11 games.
