Kendall Gaskins Fantasy Outlook After Reggie Bush, Mike Davis Injuries

The San Francisco 49ers are getting awfully thin at running back. 

Coming into Sunday, the team was without starting running back Carlos Hyde. Things only got worse from there, as both Reggie Bush (knee) and Mike Davis (hand) had to leave Sunday's contest against the St. Louis Rams. Both were unable to return, the team announced.    

That left Kendall Gaskins—a rookie who didn't have a career NFL carry coming into the game and was just promoted from the practice squad this week—as the starting running back.

It's hard to recommend picking up Gaskins on waivers for a number of reasons. For one, he only has significant fantasy value if Hyde, Bush and Davis remain sidelined beyond this week. For another, it's hard to say he has much fantasy value even if he does get a start, since the Niners have struggled offensively this year and were averaging a middling 110.1 rushing yards per game, 16th in the NFL, coming into Sunday.

So yes, Gaskins and the 49ers backfield are worth monitoring throughout the week, but unless Gaskins is confirmed as the starter for Week 9's game against the Atlanta Falcons, he's a player you can safely ignore on waivers.
