Florida and Alabama In Roote To The BCS

Kevin McGradySep 20, 2009

Florida will take a top seat in this series of articles in respect of their current position as defending champs.

Florida: Next up for Florida is a feisty Kentucky team. While the Kentucky Football Team is the foe on the schedule, the real foe here is indifference. Florida started the game this week feeling like they could just show up and lowly Tennessee would just relinquish fifty points and go home to Knoxville with their tails tucked. Instead the mediocre (by SEC standards) Tennessee defense embarrassed the Florida offense and made it look inept and undisciplined at times. If Florida does not get up for every game this season there will be another "Ole Miss" game. Kentucky is perfectly capable of delivering such a shocker this week. LSU took this game lightly two years ago and did not put Kentucky away early. This resulted in a loss to the future BCS champions. Florida has the least challenging schedule in the SEC with only two true test in the regular season. It is going to be hard to get up for each and every week, but get up they must. Florida mus do even more than get up they must improve. The performance level of last season will not go the distance this year and Florida will not be challenged to improvement during the regular season. The first step on the long road to the BCS is through Kentucky this week.

Alabama: Next up for Alabama is Arkansas. Arkansas has shown fire power on offense, but displayed no defensive tendencies what so ever. Alabama should be up for this game and the chance to show for the first time this season how the vaunted Alabama defense performs against what appears to be a very good offense. Greg McElroy will continue to perform and improve and this is important as much tougher challenges lie ahead. Alabama seems to be peaking out right on schedule and is improving weekly in almost every area. Alabama will be baptized by fire as the road to the BCS goes through the who is who of the SEC conference. If Alabama gets through this schedule unscathed they will be improved when the dust settles.
