Daniel Tosh Bets $25,000 on Rival Patriots to Help Friend with Brain Tumor

Vanessa de BeaumontOct 30, 2015

Is there anything that could ever make a sports fan commit the cardinal atrocity of supporting a division rival and turning on his favorite team?

As it turns out, yes.

Daniel Tosh, Comedy Central star and host of the mega-popular Tosh.0, celebrated the struggles of his beloved Miami Dolphins against their AFC East rival New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football because of a $25,000 bet he placed to support his friend Andy Ritchie, who has a brain tumor. And he won!

Tosh's wager that the Pats would be up by more than a field goal at the half netted a nice return when the Dolphins delivered for Ritchie, down 19 points after two quarters.

Which answers another question: Is there ever a time where that would be justified?

After auctioning off show memorabilia to raise the bet money, it's unlikely Tosh will be called out as a fake fan for trying to pay for a buddy's medical bills (if it's even possible for the Dolphins to have fake fans).

In the event Tosh's loyalty is questioned, this statement he made to the Hollywood Reporter prior to the game should just about prove his allegiance:

"

If my Dolphins are winning, I'm happy. If they're losing, Andy gets some much-needed help. If the Dolphins are only losing by three points, there is no God. So please, Tom Brady, once in your life, you and Bill [Belichick] use your shady, dishonest cheating powers for good in the first half only. In the second half, I hope you get the s--t kicked out of you.

"

Fortunately for Tosh, he only had to endure the horror of rooting for his nemesis for 30 minutes of play.

Better yet, Ritchie was the beneficiary.

Sports and comedy fans alike can continue to support #forandy and have made the goal of raising $250,000 for Ritchie possible by already contributing $47,232 to his GoFundMe page.
