Barcelona Transfer News: Nolito Wanted 'At All Costs,' Dirk Kuyt Rumours Emerge

Rory MarsdenOct 30, 2015

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is reportedly desperate to add in-form Celta Vigo forward Nolito to his squad in the January transfer window.

But reports suggest the money may not be there at the Camp Nou to bring in the 29-year-old, who has a buyout clause of €18 million (£12.9 million), per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (via Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC).

According to Sport's Lluis Miguelsanz, Enrique wants Nolito "at all costs," but the coach has been informed by the club's hierarchy that he will, in fact, cost too much.

Barca need to bring in attacking reinforcements in January, as long-term injuries to Lionel Messi and Rafinha have revealed a worrying lack of depth in their forward line, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:

Even when summer signings Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan become available in January, Barca would still be well advised to add another attacker to take into the business end of the season.

It is unsurprising that Nolito—a former Barcelona player—is a key target for Enrique as he has been immense so far this season.

He has netted seven goals in nine appearances, per WhoScored.com, while Opta reveal that no player has been more of a creative threat this term:

The Spaniard would be a terrific back-up for Neymar on the left flank and would be excellent cover should the Brazilian or Messi pick up any further injuries—or need to be rested—past January.

However, the overwhelming consensus is that he is too expensive for Barca to afford at the moment.

They will thus have to look elsewhere, and Miguelsanz reported that Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt has been eyed as a possible January purchase.

While the Dutchman is 35 years old, the Catalans are not necessarily looking to make a long-term investment, they merely need added strength up front to see them through to the summer.

Kuyt is vastly experienced, can play on either flank or in the middle and is in fine form at the moment having netted 10 Eredivisie goals in 10 appearances this season, per WhoScored.

He would be a much cheaper option than Nolito, but it seems he has ruled himself out of a move away from Feyenoord, per Dutch Football:

However, Barcelona's powers of persuasion are great, and they may be able to tempt Kuyt into seeing out his storied career at the Camp Nou with promises of trophies and a healthy pay packet.
