Rory McIlroy at Turkish Airlines Open 2015: Friday Leaderboard Score, Reaction

Rory McIlroy posted a second consecutive round of 67 on the second day of the 2015 Turkish Airlines Open to move to 10 under par at the halfway stage.

He is well placed going into the weekend, with tournament leader Jaco van Zyl sitting four shots clear of the Northern Irishman.

The Race to Dubai leader was in impeccable form in the main from tee to green and is now sitting ominously in a tie for sixth place.

A birdie on the par-five first got the world No. 3 off to the perfect start as he looked to make gains on overnight leader Van Zyl. 

He again took advantage of the par-five fourth to pick up another shot having flown his second shot into the middle of the green and two-putted. 

McIlroy had a major slice of luck, though, to be in a good position off the tee after his drive struck a tree to prevent it from going in the water, per the European Tour:

He took full advantage, and a string of pars to the turn saw him go out in a very respectable 33.

The Northern Irishman made a fast start on the back nine, with another par-five being conquered as McIlroy took four on the 11th.

Another birdie came at the very next hole as he knocked his approach at the 12th—arguably the toughest hole on the course—stiff to two feet and tapped in for a three.

McIlroy's ball-striking was impeccable on Friday, his drive on the 13th a wonder of technique, flight and power, per the European Tour:

It allowed him to easily reach a fourth consecutive par five in two shots, and although he missed his attempt at eagle, he needed just a tap-in to move to 10 under par with five holes remaining.

McIlroy had decent attempts at birdies on the two par threes at 14 and 16, but as has often been the case lately, neither of them dropped. But so impressive was his driving and approach play on Friday that it hardly mattered. 

His only real misfire came at the par-five 18th as he ploughed his drive into a bush and was forced to take a drop. But he scrambled impressively to make par and complete another bogey-less round.

In a season in which McIlroy has struggled with injury and disappointed on occasion, he has started the Final Series in terrific fashion.

The rest of the field will no doubt feel the pressure of having McIlroy so near the top of the leaderboard, and, ominously, he looks as though he could get even better over the weekend.
