Joseph Randle Reportedly Facing Discipline for Personal Conduct Policy Violation

Tim DanielsOct 29, 2015

Joseph Randle is reportedly facing potential discipline from the NFL for violating the personal conduct policy. He's met with the league investigators twice to discuss the situation, including once within the past month, and is awaiting word on punishment. Despite an official ruling not yet announced, the Dallas Cowboys have reportedly released him, according to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. It is not known if the Cowboys decided to release him due to the investigation.

Todd Archer and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported last week Randle could be fined or suspended, possibly for multiple games, in relation to a February incident in Wichita, Kansas, involving the mother of his son. He was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana after an alleged domestic incident.

Stan Finger and Matt Riedl of the Wichita Eagle noted the woman alleged Randle brandished a gun and broke her car window during a dispute. However, Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett decided there wasn't enough evidence to file charges against Randle in the case.

Though Randle is not facing legal repercussions for the incident, the ESPN report states he could still be disciplined. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network adds it could be a suspension of one or two games related to firearms and conduct, not domestic violence. Conor Orr of NFL.com provided additional details:

"

News of Randle's potential punishment comes just hours after he placed a call into Irving, Texas, police on Wednesday to perform a well-being check on his girlfriend. Irving Police Public Information Officer James McLellan told NFL.com that officers arrived at Randle's home to perform the check at 12:41 p.m. CT, but found nothing wrong when they entered the residence. He said they believed Randle's girlfriend was at school and there was no indication of a break-in or any other crime. Police cleared the scene without writing a report since there was no wrongdoing, McLellan added.

"

Last October, the running back was arrested for shoplifting after police said he tried to steal underwear and cologne, valued around $120, per Orr.

The third-year running back had rushed for 315 yards and four touchdowns in six games this season for the Cowboys. He's currently dealing with an oblique injury, however, and Jason Garrett announced last week that Darren McFadden would start in the backfield in Week 8.

Dallas recently acquired Christine Michael to pick up the extra work in the backfield behind McFadden. Versatile rookie Lucky Whitehead would also get some looks after showing some impressive burst against the New York Giants last week.

Randle is still capable of being an impact player in the NFL thanks to his all-around ability. His mediocre production, injury concerns and now a potential suspension appear like they could hold him back from landing with a new team soon, though.
