Middlesbrough will meet Everton in the League Cup quarter-finals after beating Manchester United on penalties following a goalless 120 minutes at Old Trafford. A disappointing Red Devils performance was capped by their fourth successive penalty shootout defeat, with Ashley Young, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney all failing to convert from 12 yards.
