Breeders' Cup 2015: Latest Odds and Predictions for All Racecards

Mike NorrisOct 28, 2015

The Breeders' Cup provides horse racing fans with plenty of excitement, including 13 races over a two-day period showcasing some of the sport's most successful horses.

American Pharoah, who earlier this year became horse racing's first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978, will compete in the event's Classic race. The final race of the Cup holds the largest purse of the weekend at $5 million.

There will certainly be plenty of chances on Friday and Saturday for another star to emerge, along with a possible upset or two, in the event held at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. Here is a look at the competitors and odds for each race, per Daily Racing Form and Odds Shark, and a deeper look at two of the more interesting races.

A Classic May Be Brewing

American Pharoah is certainly the biggest name in the event's final race, but another horse at 12-1 odds is one to keep an eye on. Keen Ice, ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., is the only horse to beat American Pharoah in 2015.

Beholder, at 4-1, is a mare who could make this race interesting. She has won 15 of 20 career races but none outside the state of California. Trainer Richard Mandella said Beholder caught a fever recently, per Art Wilson of the Los Angeles Daily News, but she is ready to go for the Classic. Mandella is confident but cautious as the race approaches, per Wilson.

"

Any time you’re running a race like this you’re concerned about everything. It (no wins outside California) concerns me no more than everything else that concerns me. My only concern right now is just to get her in the best shape I could get her for the race and what happens happens.

"

If this race is any indication of what Beholder did in the Pacific Classic in August—she the first mare to win the race that originated in 1991 by more than eight lengths—this could be a good one.

The Classic has a great field for the event's final race, and look for American Pharoah to hold off his competitors and live up to the hype he has built in 2015.

Bobby's Kitten Goes From Underdog to Near Favorite

In last year's Turf Sprint, Bobby's Kitten came from last place to win a photo finish over favorite No Nay Never. It was the third victory for trainer Chad Brown, per BreedersCup.com.

This year, Brown, Bobby's Kitten and jockey Javier Castellano won't sneak up on anyone. Although not the prohibitive favorite in the race, that spot belongs to Lady Shipman—the four-year-old colt still sits at 6-1 to win.

A write-up on Bobby's Kitten, per Daily Racing Form, suggested that even though the horse has struggled some this year, the Turf Sprint might be the perfect bounce-back race: "Won this race last year, but on the downhill at SA; form this year is clouded; has wake-up potential."

J. Keeler Johnson, racing handicapper and member of the NTWAB, feels confident in Kitten's chances.

Just like last year, this will be a close race. The Turf Sprint is a strong field, but look for Bobby's Kitten to become the second straight back-to-back champion following Mizdirection's victories in 2012 and 2013.
