Bucks' New Arena Opening Pushed Back by 1 Year

Wednesday, Oct. 28

While the original plan called for the Bucks to open their new arena in time for the start of the 2017-18 season, the timetable has now been pushed back to 2018-19, according to the Associated Press (h/t Pro Basketball Talk).

Per the AP (h/t Pro Basketball Talk), Bucks spokesman Jake Suski said that having the arena ready to go by 2017 "simply isn't realistic."

The NBA previously threatened the Bucks with relocation if they didn't have a new arena in place by 2017, but according to the AP (h/t NBA.com), a spokesman revealed that the league is "comfortable with the revised timetable."

The Bucks have played their games in the BMO Harris Bradley Center since 1988, and it is now one of the oldest venues in the entire NBA.

While the Bucks have yet to officially finalize plans for their new arena, the current rendering seems to depict a unique, state-of-the-art facility, as seen in this tweet courtesy of Today's TMJ4:

Finishing such a big project in two years certainly seemed ambitious on the surface, so it is understandable why those involved with the new arena pushed for a change in the timetable.

The NBA would obviously love to have a new venue in place as soon as possible, but now that it knows the Bucks are committed to moving out of the Bradley Center in the near future, there isn't much incentive to rush the process.

The Bucks and the NBA presumably want things done right, and allowing for another year of construction and fine-tuning should go a long way toward accomplishing that goal.
