WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for October 29

Erik BeastonOct 28, 2015

The only treat awaiting current intercontinental champion Kevin Owens when he arrived in Phoenix for a special Halloween episode of SmackDown, taped Tuesday night, was a showdown with the man that cost him the opportunity to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns.

The final two competitors in Raw's Fatal 4-Way No. 1 Contender's match main event, they waged war once again during this week's tapings at the insistence of Owens, who felt he was seconds away from earning a shot at the top prize in the industry.

With Owens' title not at stake, the former Ring of Honor star could focus his attention on putting Reigns out of commission.

But would he?

And what else would unfold as the company taped its final television broadcast of the month?

Fans inside US Airways Center in Phoenix know the answer some two days before the show airs. Now you can too, courtesy of our friends over at WrestlingInc.com.

Results

  • Bray Wyatt cut a promo in a pre-taped vignette where he challenged any three Superstars to step up to the plate and challenge his three followers later in the night.
  • Roman Reigns kicked off the show and talked about winning the No. 1 contender's opportunity on Raw. Kevin Owens interrupted, and a match was booked.
  • Roman Reigns defeated intercontinental champion Kevin Owens via count-out when Reigns delivered the Superman Punch and Owens bailed out of the ring.
  • The Lucha Dragons defeated The Dudley Boyz, The Ascension and Sheamus and King Barrett in a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team match. The New Day was at ringside.
  • Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz in a Trick or Treat Street Fight. After the match, Tyler Breeze attacked the winner.
  • Paige defeated Natalya. Team BAD attacked after the match, leaving Natalya in a heap.
  • United States champion Alberto Del Rio announced the title represented both the U.S. and Mexico.
  • Del Rio defeated R-Truth.
  • Braun Strowman, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan defeated Cesaro, Ryback and Dean Ambrose.

Analysis

Putting emphasis on The Wyatt Family is a great idea on the part of WWE Creative, especially if they are to be a part of a high-profile match at Survivor Series, as the interactions and assaults on Undertaker and Kane would suggest.

Ambrose, Cesaro and Ryback were the perfect three Superstars to put Strowman, Harper and Rowan over in that they are all relatively bulletproof in the eyes of the fans. They have the respect of the audience and will not get any less over as a result of a loss.

Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens picking up where they left off Monday night is another solid idea, especially given the chemistry they demonstrated in their brief interaction.

Whether that translates in a full-length match or not remains to be seen, but given the talent of the two men involved, that should be expected.

The biggest shocker of the night is The Lucha Dragons' victory in a Fatal 4-Way match involving The Dudley Boyz. It could be for reasons as simple as the fact that the luchadores wear masks and Thursday's show is a Halloween-themed one, but if that is not the case, one has to wonder if WWE Creative has opted to move away from Bubba Ray and D-Von in order to position Kalisto and Sin Cara as the new No. 1 contenders to The New Day's WWE Tag Team Championships.

Finally, it appears as though there may have been validity to Paige's assertions that she did not attack Natalya backstage, especially if the involvement of Team BAD in the equation is any indication.

Overall, the October 29 episode of SmackDown looks like a fun way to pass two hours. With the Halloween theme and what should be an entertaining Street Fight between Dolph Ziggler and The Miz, it will be much more enjoyable than the garden variety episodes of the show that mean nothing in the long run.

There appears to be little in the way of story progression, but that has become the norm with the Thursday show, unfortunately.

If you are not out trick-or-treating with the kids or causing mayhem with ghouls and goblins, check out the show. Otherwise, skip it. You will not have missed anything imperative.
