Arsenal Transfer News: Alexis Sanchez Offer Tabled by Real Madrid, Top Rumours

Matt JonesOct 27, 2015

Real Madrid have reportedly approached Arsenal talisman Alexis Sanchez about a possible transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon (ht/ Will Giles of Metro), the Chilean firebrand has been handed a “new proposal,” with the promise of challenging for major honours said to be a key factor. Giles writes that Los Blancos do not think that’s something the Gunners can do on a regular basis.

If Real were to come calling, it’d be a worry for the Emirates Stadium faithful, especially given the club’s precedent for cashing in on big-name players for the right amount of money. As we can see here, courtesy of WhoScored.com, prior to Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Bayern Munich last week, Sanchez had been in sensational goalscoring form:

When it comes to the Chilean, it’s not just goals that the club would have to replace either. Indeed, capable of playing anywhere across the front line, Sanchez is a versatile player, and wherever he is stationed in the Arsenal attack, he always has a vibrant impact on the game due to his stellar work rate.

Defensively, he makes a big contribution, too.

Sanchez’s willingness to get on the ball sees him take industrious forward play to new levels. It’s why manager Arsene Wenger, who recently admitted his star forward was “exhausted,” per Dan Ripley of the MailOnline, parted with big money to land him from Barcelona in 2014.

It’s the kind of rounded play and willingness to take responsibility in games which could well see the Gunners challenge for the Premier League crown this season. Sports journalist Rafael Hernandez thinks that Arsenal have a great chance of winning in a style similar to Manchester City's memorable triumph two years ago:

Encouragingly for the Emirates Stadium faithful, according to Goal.com (via Rhys Turrell of the Daily Star), Alexis is keen to get the ball rolling on a new contract with the club despite the interest of Real Madrid. It’s noted in the piece that Sanchez could become Arsenal’s top earner, has “no interest” in leaving the club and has just bought a new home in London.

That’d be brilliant news for Arsenal supporters amid the flurry of Real Madrid rumours. As noted by Gunnerblog, the Chilean is a player who can turn tight matches the way of his team:

When Real Madrid do come calling, it’s often very difficult for players not to have their head turned. But it seems as though Sanchez is content in London and, as is evident by some strong recent displays on the field, is really enjoying his football in Arsenal colours.

The challenge for Alexis moving forward will be to continue assisting the Gunners in their quest to compete for the biggest honours in the game. If he can carry on being a consistent threat at the point of the Arsenal attack for the remainder of this season and a few more years yet, then the Premier League title will surely be making an overdue visit to the Emirates.
