Other Athletes Who Are Huge NFL Fans

Giancarlo Ferrari-KingNov 2, 2015

Who doesn't love the National Football League? Pro football these days has become a powerhouse of tradition. This oversaturated entity has taken over three days of our lives on a weekly basis and we love it.

People need some pigskin. That applies not only to the general public, but also fellow stars of the sports community.

Knowing that, we wanted to find eight athletes who were massive NFL fans. So we took to the Internet, buttoned up our jacket and found some vital contenders. Here are the names we came up with.

Phil Mickelson

1 of 8

Phil Mickelson was born in San Diego. By design, the 45-year-old golfer is a fan of the Chargers. He's done events at games—pictured above—and even shown up during the team's postseason efforts.

The last time we saw "Lefty" at a Chargers playoff game was in 2014. That's when he appeared near the team's locker room after the Bolds destroyed the Cincinnati Bengals, 27-10, as reported by Chris Strauss of For the Win.

Hopefully the Chargers wind up staying in San Diego. Because if they leave for Los Angeles, that would surely upset one of their biggest fans.

Michael Phelps

2 of 8

Michael Phelps loves his Baltimore Ravens. The decorated Olympian has shown face at multiple games, including the team's Super Bowl XLVII victory.

Garrett Downing of BaltimoreRavens.com wrote a cool piece that focused on Phelps greeting the team after their big AFC Championship Game win over the New England Patriots in 2013. It goes to show you, diehard fans can come from just about anywhere. Who would have thought Phelps and the Ravens were so close?

LeBron James

3 of 8

LeBron James is a real Dallas Cowboys fan. If somehow you didn't know that, you do now.

The NBA's King loves his Cowboys. He's professed his love over Instagram and even showed up to the Cowboys' pre-game festivities—as you can see above. James' love for Jerry Jones' Cowboys doesn't stop with social media posts.

Last year, during the release period of his LeBron 12 signature kicks, a Cowboys inspired colorway was dropped onto our laps, via Ian Stonebrook of Nice Kicks.

It's hard to top that in terms of fandom.

Tiger Woods

4 of 8

Apparently, California teams and professional golfers have a connection. Phil Mickelson roots for the Chargers while Tiger Woods is all in when it comes to the Oakland Raiders.

Woods is a hardcore Silver and Black supporter. He's even gone out and made his presence felt in the "Black Hole" section of the stadium, per Nick Schwartz of For the Win.

When the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots were set to collide in Super Bowl XLIX, Woods picked the Seahawks to win, according to Jason Cook of GolfChannel.com. As cool as that was, the real story here was that Tiger slipped in a Raiders reference. "Unfortunately it's not the Raiders, but I'll take Seattle 24-17 over the Patriots," Woods expressed.

Now that's a true fan.

Kevin Durant

5 of 8

LeBron James may love the Cowboys, but fellow NBA star, Kevin Durant, supports Washington.

The former NBA MVP supports his team by taking to the field on game days and sporting a ton of unique gear. But his love for all things Washington doesn't end there.

Talking to ESPN's Matthew Berry on his Fantasy Focus podcast, via USA Today's Alec J Neuharth-KeuschDurant expressed interest in eventually owning the team. Can you imagine a Washington team free from the clutches of Daniel Snyder? Come on, Durant. Make it happen.

Andre Iguodala

6 of 8

Andre Iguodala is the reigning NBA Finals MVP, a tremendous asset to the Golden State Warriors and an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers.

It's pretty sweet that Iguodala now plays near his favorite sports franchise. He's been all over the 49ers land, whether that's by doing a Twitter takeover in 2013 or showing up to the 49ers vs. Packers contest this past October.

Iguodala is a longtime fan of this club. He proved that loyalty on Instagram when he dropped a vintage picture of his iconic 49ers-themed sheets.

Mike Trout

7 of 8

Mike Trout could be the best player in Major League Baseball today. The 24-year-old has done a lot of good for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

When he's not out winning MVP awards and crushing home runs, Trout can be seen rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles. As a native of Vineland, New Jersey, Trout grew up less than an hour away from Philadelphia.

Trout doesn't shy away from his love of the Birds. During the 2015 NFL draft, he reached out to ESPN's Adam Schefter about the Eagles chances of landing Marcus Mariota.

Forget the fact that Schefter blew up his spot. That's a sweet way to use your connections in the sports world.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.

8 of 8

Robert Griffin III may no longer be the quarterback, but that hasn't made NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. any less of Washington fan.

Earnhardt loves his team. Prior to the 2015 NFL draft, he offered up some advice on pushing the team forward, via Chris Korman of For the Win.

Passionate fans are what drive the NFL. Earnhardt Jr. is one of the best. He not only supports his team, but he's dedicated enough to understand various aspects of the gridiron.
