The Rock Responds to WWE Universe Asking If He Should Be Next Miami Coach

Joe PantornoOct 26, 2015

It's been an ugly week for the University of Miami football program. After their worst loss in program history on Saturday, a 58-0 drubbing at the hands of then-No. 6 Clemson, the Hurricanes fired head coach Al Golden on Sunday, per ESPN.com's Matt Fortuna.

WWE Universe believes that they might have found a candidate for the next head coach of the school, and he shares supporters from both fanbases:

Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, was one of the most iconic wrestlers in WWE's history before his current ventures on the silver screen. Before he was entertaining the wrestling world, Johnson played for the Hurricanes from 1991-1994 as a defensive lineman.

Still heavily invested in the program, Johnson gave the largest donation ever to the Miami athletic department, according to Chip Patterson of CBSSports.com, which led to the school renaming the team's locker room after him.

Johnson took to Twitter to address the desires of fans to see him patrolling the Miami sidelines once again: "Thank you WWE fam! We'll find our coach who's hungry for greatness. Not just winning. Big difference. Need to create a culture that's TRULY hungry for greatness. Not just winning, but greatness. We'll find that coach."

While it doesn't seem realistic that he could make the jump to coaching Miami anytime soon, his passion and devotion to the program are both things the Hurricanes need right now. Miami is 4-3 this season and has lost three of the past four games, including that historic loss to Clemson.

For now, Miami will move forward with former tight ends coach and run-game coordinator Larry Scott as its interim head coach.
