Matt Cassel to Remain Cowboys' Starting QB Despite Throwing 3 INTs vs. Giants

The Dallas Cowboys are reeling amid a four-game losing streak and an awful quarterback situation.

Matt Cassel threw three interceptions in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the NFC East rival New York Giants, but Dallas is sticking with Cassel despite his Week 7 struggles. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced Cassel is still atop the QB depth chart after the game, per DallasCowboys.com's David Helman.

Cassel did make some plays Sunday, going 17-of-27 for 227 passing yards and a touchdown toss to Devin Street while under duress. The veteran signal-caller took more risks than his brief predecessor Brandon Weeden, a former first-round pick who still can't get through reads fast enough.

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram praised Cassel for shaking off the numerous mistakes he made:

America's Team is dearly missing Tony Romo. Romo has been out since Week 2 with a fractured clavicle. Top receiver Dez Bryant has also been down since the season opener because of a broken bone in his foot.

One silver lining is that Dallas still had a decent chance to win on the road against the Giants despite Cassel's mistakes. The 33-year-old is still learning the offense after arriving in a trade from Buffalo that came as a response to Romo's injury.

A big reason why the Cowboys hung tough Sunday was a stellar rushing attack that racked up 233 yards on the ground, led by Darren McFadden's 152 yards and one rushing touchdown on 29 carries. Perhaps Dallas' offensive line can set the tone and allow the team to continue pounding the rock as a means of overcoming the passing game's limitations.

Week 8 is going to be a challenge for the Cowboys as they play host to the Seattle Seahawks. If McFadden or Dallas' other backs can't get going, Cassel will be under siege as he tries to produce against a stout "Legion of Boom" Seahawks secondary.
