Bupa Great South Run 2015 Results: Men's and Women's Top Finishers

Tom SunderlandOct 25, 2015

Moses Kipsiro became the first Ugandan runner ever to win the Great South Run on Sunday after blitzing the Portsmouth event in a time of 46 minutes, the fastest time since Joseph Ebuya set the course record in 2010.

The women's race was won by Kenya's Vivian Cheruiyot, who completed the 10-mile course in 51 minutes and 17 seconds, while Jo Pavey came second to fly a strong flag for the host nation, according to BBC South Today:

A full list of Sunday's Great South Run results will be available on the race's official website.

Pavey won the Great South Run in 2012 and 2006, but the pace set by Cheruiyot on Sunday simply proved too fierce and goes down as the third-fastest time ever run by a female competitor at this event.

The British contender was almost a minute-and-a-half behind the victor with a finishing time of 52 minutes and 44 seconds, showing just how imperious Cheruiyot was en route to her triumph over 10 miles.

Kenya missed out on top spot in the men's race, but fortunately, 2013 winner Emmanuel Bett and Emmanuel Kipsang were on hand to make up the podium in second and third, respectively, per Stuart Anderson of Portsmouth News:

By comparison, there was just 11 seconds separating the first and third-place finishers in the men's contest, with Kipsang clocking a time of 46 minutes and 11 seconds, while Bett was three seconds ahead of that.

Kipsiro was just 45 seconds short of the Great South Run course record and finishes Sunday with the third-fastest time ever recorded at the event, second only to Benson Masya and the aforementioned Ebuya.

This marks the third consecutive year African nations have dominated the winners' medals in Portsmouth, with Pavey having been the last European to disrupt that reign with her victory three years ago.

The fastest-finishing Briton in the men's race was confirmed by Team New Balance Manchester as Stockport Harriers runner Ross Millington with a time of 47 minutes and 46 seconds:

Apart from the elite athletes, there was also a mass of casual runners on hand in Sunday's south-coast event, representing different charities and good causes in the beaming British weather.

Between the fast times of the professionals and the good-willed gestures of the more casual participants, the 2015 Great South Run went down on Sunday as a major success.
