Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella: Winner and Reaction from WWE Hell in a Cell 2015

In her first pay-per-view title defense since winning the Divas championship at WWE Night of Champions, Charlotte successfully retained the title Sunday night at Hell in a Cell by defeating Nikki Bella.

WWE and WWE Universe provided some of the highlights of a match that featured plenty of action:

Black Sports Online's Robert Littal provided his thoughts on the match:

Eva Marie congratulated Charlotte on her win:

Although Ric Flair's daughter has been on WWE's main roster for only a couple of months, she ended the longest Divas title reign of all time in September. The challenge didn't end there, however, as a determined Nikki was desperate to get her championship back.

Charlotte has risen to the top of the Divas ranks in a short period of time. In addition to winning the Divas title shortly after her debut, it didn't take her long to win the NXT women's championship, either.

She is a natural thanks to her lineage, and the WWE Universe has wasted no time in embracing her and labeling her as the future of women's wrestling along with Sasha Banks.

The opposite is true for Nikki, as she has been with the company since 2008 and slowly improved and built herself up during that time. Despite that, she has become public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of many fans as the Divas revolution attempts to pick up steam.

Nikki has been flanked by Team Bella in the form of Brie Bella and Alicia Fox, while Charlotte came up to the main roster as part of Team PCB alongside Becky Lynch and Paige. While Paige broke away from the group, Becky continued to lend support leading up to Hell in a Cell by expressing confidence in her friend:

While there was a ton of excitement surrounding the Divas revolution when it started ahead of SummerSlam, that feeling has waned because the creative team has heavily relied on factions instead of giving the Divas direction as individuals.

There have been some strong matches along the way, though, and Sunday's bout was another example as Charlotte and Nikki built upon their encounter from Night of Champions.

With Charlotte managing to retain her title, she will likely move on to feud with some other Divas in the coming weeks and months.

Paige is an obvious candidate based on their recent issues, but Sasha has earned the right to vie for the Divas title based on her sterling main-roster record thus far.

Whatever the case, there are several intriguing potential angles on the table moving forward, and that should breathe some life into the Divas division.
