Conor McGregor Offers to Save UFC Fight Night 76, Calls out Dustin Poirier

Steven RondinaOct 21, 2015

Albert Einstein once said, "In the face of adversity lies opportunity," and UFC fighter Conor McGregor loves adversity.

The UFC announced Wednesday afternoon that the main event to UFC Fight Night 76, a lightweight bout between Dustin Poirier and Joseph Duffy, was off due to "a medical issue" suffered by Duffy.

With the card's other blue-chip fight, a heavyweight bout between Stipe Miocic and Ben Rothwell also getting chopped, the largely nondescript flyweight fight between Patrick Holohan and Louis Smolka has since assumed the main event spot.

Obviously, that fact isn't sitting well with fans in Dublin who bought tickets to the event. The same goes for fans who were looking forward to the first decent Fight Pass card in months. McGregor picked up on that vibe, and he is willing to make it right...for a price:

"

I will give peanut another crack at the King no sweat. I'll take the gate. It's my gate anyway. A cool 7. Cash. See you at the weigh ins.

— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) October 21, 2015"

It's not the first time McGregor has said that he wants a spot on the card. Even when he was lined up to face Chad Mendes for the interim title, he was pushing UFC management to pencil him onto the card. That didn't change after taking interim gold either, and he was discussing (warning: NSFW language) not fighting on the card as recently as last week on The MMA Hour.

It goes without saying, but there's basically no chance that McGregor will fight on the card. While the Dublin crowd would love to once again have its local hero headline a card (his Fight Night 45 bout against Diego Brandao remains one of the UFC's most storied events), McGregor bouts are too valuable to give away on Fight Pass.

Still, it's nice to see that McGregor is as much of a lunatic as ever.
