Tyler Breeze, Patrick Clark and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertOct 21, 2015

Tyler Breeze sauntered onto the WWE stage with his fuzzy, purple boots, taking a big step in a journey that Patrick Clark has just begun. NXT signed Clark and a handful of other competitors from WWE Tough Enough. Prince Pretty, meanwhile, has moved on from the developmental brand to the main roster.

After a flurry of rumors about whether Breeze would be debuting soon, he showed up in Austin, Texas, and made an immediate enemy.

Clark seems to have made an enemy of his own. An indy company lashed out at the prospect after a dispute about a scheduled appearance.

Elsewhere in NXT, Colin Cassady is hobbled, Sami Zayn returned to the indies and Tommaso Ciampa reminded fans to take what one reads online with a grain of salt.

WWE Contestants from 'Tough Enough'

Clearly, it pays to be on WWE Tough Enough, regardless if you win or lose.

PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson reported that Patrick Clark, Mada Abdelhamid and Daria Berenato all signed WWE deals. At this point, nearly the whole cast is in WWE's developmental system. In addition to the reality show's winners, WWE also picked up Zamariah Loupe and Amanda Saccomanno in recent weeks.

Clark was one of the most talented prospects on Tough Enough, but fans voted him off early. His attitude and immaturity were likely a part of that.

Those critiques of his character popped up again. After Clark reportedly no-showed an event, the Millennium Wrestling Federation released a video calling the wrestler out.

WWE is smart to at least give both Abdelhamid and Berenato a chance to prove themselves at the Performance Center. Both showed potential during Tough Enough as two of the best athletes on the show.

Sami Zayn Makes Appearance for EVOLVE

2 of 5

The changing nature of the wrestling business was apparent when Sami Zayn appeared at a pair of Evolve events over the weekend.

The former NXT champ stepped into the ring after the main event and addressed the crowd. He talked up Johnny Gargano (who has made recent appearances for NXT) and talked about how he misses working the independent circuit.

And Zayn showing up for the company he once worked for was clearly a boon for them. Dave Meltzer noted for F4WOnline that Evolve "set its all-time attendance record."

NXT and the indy promotion's relationship is both growing and evolving. Perhaps this means we will see more talent exchanges or that Evolve becomes a pipeline of prospects for WWE's developmental system. Either way, as Zayn said in his return to Evolve, "What an insane time period we are in."

Colin Cassady Apparently Nursing Leg Injury

3 of 5

Colin Cassady may not be delivering any Empire Elbows any time soon.

The big man showed up to a meet-and-greet event with what appeared to be a leg injury. Maryann Mason tweeted a photo of Cassady on crutches. Will Pruett of ProWrestling.net tweeted, "Bummer to hear that Big Cass is hurt."

There has been no official word from WWE on Cassady's condition. One imagines that officials may want to use the injury as storyline fuel and so will wait to acknowledge it until after any injury angle airs.

If he is hurt, he can play more of a manager role for Enzo Amore, which allows him to work more on his mic work.

Tyler Breeze Debuts on SmackDown

4 of 5

On Thursday's SmackDown, Tyler Breeze will go from NXT star to WWE newcomer.

WWE unveiled the surprise before the show aired and announced that Breeze debuted on the SmackDown in Austin, Texas. That ends the recent speculation about whether Breeze was set for a call-up. The conversation now shifts to what's next for him.

At NXT, he was often booked to lose his biggest matches. With the goofiness of his gimmick, many will expect him to be a comedy wrestler and low-rung act.

He's talented enough to be more than that if presented well. Adrian Street, Gorgeous George and Goldust all made their mark as both flamboyant and intimidating grapplers.

Other News, Notes

Recent NXT arrivals Billie Kay and Peyton Royce are now officially listed on WWE.com's NXT roster page

Former NXT prospect Zahra Schreiber is poised to step into the ring for someone else. Dreamwave Wrestling announced on Twitter that she would make her in-ring debut for the company on Nov. 7.

After WWE let her go in August, per TMZ, for controversial social media posts, she resurfaced at a Dreamwave event.

Speculation has been swirling about whether Tommaso Ciampa is headed to NXT as more than a part-time guest.

Dave Meltzer noted on F4WOnline, "Promoter Jim Smallman strongly hinted Tommaso Ciampa was WWE-bound." He also wrote, however, that "according to those close to the situation, Ciampa has not signed a WWE deal at this time."

Still, there has been a ton of talk about Ciampa potentially signing online.

Ciampa himself seemed to suggest that this buzz was hollow. He tweeted, "Thanks guys...but don't believe everything you read."
