Arsenal Transfer News: Edinson Cavani Open to PSG Exit, Andre Gomes Rumours

Rory MarsdenOct 21, 2015

Paris Saint-Germain striker and reported Arsenal target Edinson Cavani has conceded he could be open to a move away from the French capital.

The PSG forward has been in impressive form so far this season, netting six goals in 10 Ligue 1 appearances, per WhoScored.com.

However, Cavani has admitted to being unsure where his future lies and said he would be open to returning to Napoli, where he was hugely successful before moving to France, per Italian outlet Corriere del Mezzogiorno (h/t Bruce Archer in the Express):

"

Would I go back to Italy?

Sure. For us players the future is unpredictable, I’d go back to where I had three fantastics seasons which allowed me to come to Paris.

Napoli? Why not? Here in Paris, I always watch Napoli on TV, when it fits in with training commitments and our own games.

I must confess, this year I’m passionate, I feel very happy to see the team playing well, having fun and getting results.

"

Arsenal have long been rumoured as interested in signing up the £45 million-rated Cavani, with Archer previously reporting PSG would listen to offers for the Uruguayan in January.

While Cavani's latest comments are hardly an admission that he wants to leave PSG imminently, they at least indicate he could be open to a move away from the Parc des Princes.

Arsenal could do with added depth up front, as they are currently reliant upon an inconsistent Olivier Giroud and an out-of-position Theo Walcott as their options at No. 9.

While both have been impressive so far this season—Giroud has four Premier League goals in 357 minutes of play mainly from the bench, according to WhoScored—there is no guarantee they can keep it up all season.

The addition of Cavani in January would be a huge boost for the second half of the campaign, as he would add genuine finishing quality and further depth to the front line.

Meanwhile, Arsenal scouts have reportedly been in Spain recently to cast their eye over Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes.

Per Spanish outlet Fichajes.net (h/t Metro's Mark Brus), Arsenal are lining up a potential move for the 22-year-old Portugal international having been impressed by him for some time.

He is an obvious midfield talent, and it is unsurprising that he is on the Gunners' radar considering his intricate style of play.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is well-renowned for improving and nurturing young players, and Gomes could benefit hugely under the Frenchman's tutelage.

Valencia are currently sitting in eighth in the Spanish top flight, and a move to the Emirates would undoubtedly be a step up for the former Benfica man.

Gomes could be a key player for Arsenal in the centre of midfield for some years to come, but Los Che will be loath to let him go easily.
