WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for October 22

Erik BeastonOct 20, 2015

With one last shot at selling this Sunday's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view to the masses, World Wrestling Entertainment rolled into Austin, Texas, for this week's SmackDown television tapings.

After defeating Ryback and walking out on former Shield teammates Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose in the night's main event, Seth Rollins arrived to SmackDown, ready to continue building momentum for himself as he prepares to battle The Demon Kane inside the devil's playground.

But what, or who, would await The Architect when he arrived?

And what about The New Day? Would it continue its winning ways ahead of its WWE Tag Team Championship defense against The Dudley Boyz, or would it find its momentum halted?

With the Divas in action and Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae joining The Miz on Miz TV, the show was chock-full of matches and moments meant to put the final touches on the hype for this weekend's massive pay-per-view offering.

The Austin fans already know what to expect when SmackDown hits the SyFy network airwaves. Now you do to, courtesy of our friends at WrestlingInc.com, per Marc Middleton.

Results

  • Kane cut a promo to kick off the show but was interrupted by The New Day. A main event pitting The New Day against Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose was booked for later in the show.
  • WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins defeated Cesaro in a non-title match. During the bout, Stardust and The Ascension mockingly cheered The Swiss Superman from ringside.
  • Paige called out Becky Lynch and Charlotte. The Bella Twins interrupted, though, and a match was underway.
  • Nikki Bella pinned Paige following the Rack Attack.
  • The Miz hosted Miz TV with Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae. The Showoff claimed he was done with Summer Rae, who was unfazed by the statement, instead admitting she had moved on. Tyler Breeze made his debut, cutting a promo and attacking Ziggler.
  • Sheamus and King Barrett (with Rusev) defeated The Lucha Dragons.
  • Ryback defeated Bo Dallas.
  • Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose defeated The New Day after The Dudley Boyz prevented the heels from escaping, leading to a spear from Reigns to Kofi Kingston for the win.

Analysis

Tyler Breeze's debut will dominate headlines coming out of Thursday's show, as he very well should. The cornerstone of NXT for the better part of two years, Prince Pretty is more than deserving of the opportunity to showcase his talents on the main roster.

That he will have the chance to work with Dolph Ziggler right off the bat will do wonders for him from an in-ring standpoint while opposing one of the most perennially over stars on the roster will help him connect with the audience.

The decision to have both Seth Rollins and Kane on the same show but not interact, at least in front of the audience, is a questionable decision. When factoring in the Big Red Monster's absence from Raw Monday night, it becomes incredibly clear that WWE Creative has given up on trying to convince its audience that the program is one worthy of the industry's top prize.

The New Day's streak of high-profile matches continues against two men synonymous with SmackDown in Reigns and Ambrose. Given the fact that The Lunatic Fringe was on the losing end of a match against The New Day a week ago and then left lying in the ring by the trio on last week's SmackDown, it is a nice bit of continuity.

Paige continues her losing ways, dropping a singles bout to Nikki Bella. That will likely generate even more hatred on social-media platforms across the Internet, but at the end of the day, one of the women has a Divas title match against Charlotte on Sunday, and one does not.

Overall, SmackDown appears to be a show that is much more focused and interesting than Raw, which was disjointed, to say the least.
