WWE 2K16: New 'Bonfire' Ad Features Steve Austin, Seth Rollins, Sting

Brian MaziqueOct 20, 2015

This is the way to hype the release of a wrestling video game. "The Bonfire" spot for WWE 2K16 rivals WWE 2K15's Sting ad as one of the best pre-release commercials for a WWE title.

In case you haven’t clicked the play button on the video above, I’d suggest you do that now and soak up some of the goodness the folks at 2K Sports cooked up with their latest commercial for the upcoming release.

WWE 2K16 hits stores on Tuesday, October 27, for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC, and it boasts the largest roster ever seen in a WWE video game. You can check it out here.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is the cover star, primary subject of the game’s single-player campaign and the first face you see in the commercial. He’s quickly joined by Seth Rollins, Sting and other WWE Superstars in front of a bonfire.

Each star has a memento to offer to the flames that commemorates a rivalry from their history in the WWE. It’s pretty slick.

Of course, no video game ad is complete without some glimpses of gameplay. Because the WWE 2K games are almost always visual masterpieces, the splices of in-game footage fit in nicely with the dramatic mood set by the live-action footage.

I’ve had the opportunity to play the game over the SummerSlam weekend in August, and while it was an early build, I came away impressed with the overall feel of the gameplay.

When you add in the expanded creation suite, MyCAREER additions and the impact of the bonfire commercial, 2K Sports has succeeded in their goal to increase anticipation for the game’s release. Check out the trailers for the two aforementioned features below:

Somewhere there’s a hardcore fan cutting their own mock Austin promo. They’re saying, “Am I ready to play this game? Can I get a hell yeah?”
