Jones Diagnosed With Sprain

Monday, Nov. 16

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Jones' sprain is "pretty severe" and to expect Mike Vick to serve as the backup after the Week 11 bye.

Roethlisberger's Return Gives Boost to Steelers Offense

Ben Roethlisberger took over for Jones and went on to power the Steelers to a 30-9 win with Jones on the sideline.

In truth, Jones was never really supposed to see the field this year. He started the regular season third behind Roethlisberger and Michael Vick on the Steelers' depth chart. But then Roethlisberger sprained his MCL in late September, and Vick needed to be evaluated for a concussion in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals.

That forced Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin to insert Jones into the game, and the former Oklahoma Sooner finished 8-of-12 for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the 25-13 victory.

Jones was once again starting for Roethlisberger in Week 10, as Big Ben injured his foot in Week 9 and recovered to the point where he was able to serve as the backup against Cleveland.

To a certain extent, the Steelers are incredibly well-equipped to handle having to replace so many quarterbacks. Wide receiver Antonio Brown is among the best at his position, while Martavis Bryant is the perfect kind of receiver for a possibly overmatched QB—just get the ball somewhere in Bryant's vicinity and let him do the rest.

The Steelers have been extremely resilient this year given all of their issues at quarterback, but Roethlisberger's presence will put Pittsburgh in capable hands.
