Cowboy Nation: Game One in The Bag

David SalinasSep 19, 2009
It's been a long wait from last season, and that hellish end in Philadelphia.  So much has changed.  Players have come and gone.  Certain coaches have adjusted their attitudes.  But would it be enough?
Game one against the Tampa Bay Bucs proved that all the changes were for the better.  Well, maybe not all the needs were met, Jerry Jones is still the president of the club, but I will gladly eat my words if the Cowboys find themselves in Miami at the end of the year.
The most pleasing thing about the win in Tampa, was the fact that Tony Romo produced his highest passing yard total in a single game (353), and his longest touchdown pass (80 yards) of his career without Terrell Owens.  In contrast, the Bills and TO managed to lose a game that should have been won.  And TO ended up with three catches for a few yards.  Same old TBlow.

Whole new Dallas Cowboy team.
The circus has left town, and the ringmaster is about to ruin a new quarterback.  I again extend my apology to Buffalo.  But enough about that reality show whore.  There is a new problem afoot.
What is wrong with the run defense?
Cadillac Williams ran through the defense at will.  This is a huge problem, because if a guy who is coming off of two knee surgeries can do that against our defense, what do you think Brandon Jacobs is going to do?  He's already running off at the mouth, expressing how much he hates the Cowboys.  If this bonehead is allowed to run through the defense as effectively, the Boys will be in for a long night.  Right now, no one is afraid of Peyton Manning's brother.  And that group of ragtag receivers is in no way a threat.  Hell, nobody teaches those idiots how to handle firearms, let alone footballs.  But if they are allowed to run, the Cowboys may lose.  They need to hold Jacobs below 100 yards on Sunday night.
Cowboys head coach/defensive coordinator Wade Phillips says he is at fault for the amount of rushing yards Tampa was able to get away with.  According to Wade, his blitz packaging created holes in the 3-4 that Cadillac was able to get through.   There were adjustments in the second half that gassed Cadillac, and that's a good thing.  But now we have to stop a truck, and I think the Cowboys are ready.  I'm looking for a tough Dallas line for tonight's game.  Meanwhile Tony and crew will score enough points to survive against the impressive defense of the Giants.
This early game is already an enormous strike on the new season.  This is definitely a statement game, and if the Boys can make it out alive, there will be a new Sheriff in town.  And we can start digging the grave for the mighty Giants.  So everyone grab a shovel, and lets GET IT ON!
