QPR Midfielder Massimo Luongo Doubts His Own Ballon d'Or Credentials
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo was a surprise inclusion on the list of contenders for the Ballon d'Or, and he's certainly not expecting to cause an even bigger shock by lifting the prestigious trophy in January.
The Australian was perhaps the stand-out shocker in a 59-man list that snubbed Gigi Buffon, with Arsenal reserve David Ospina and Bournemouth winger Christian Atsu two others to get the nod instead.
Currently plying his trade in the second tier of English football, Luongo was "honoured" to be included alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

He said, per Goal:
"There are some massive names on there, so I can't really see myself getting any further, but I'm really honoured to be on the list in the first place, not many people get to do it, so I'll just take it and enjoy it. I'm really happy with what I've done at the moment.
"
So if it's not Luongo taking home the trophy, who will it be? No guesses for the two players he highlighted.
"Obviously I think it's between Ronaldo and Messi. I don’t know how they pick it. If they pick it on stats and based on figures and everything, then Ronaldo will win it, but I think Messi deserves it.
"
I think he's just beyond everyone else.
We'd personally prefer Luongo to bring the big prize back to Loftus Road.
