Cristiano Ronaldo Snubbed by Scorsese for Role in New Film 'The Manipulator'

Cristiano Ronaldo will have to wait to make his Hollywood debut after reportedly being dropped by Martin Scorsese for his new film, The Manipulator.

The Real Madrid icon was set for a debut role on the silver screen, according to Gazzetta World, but has been dropped due to fears he could steal the limelight from the film itself.

As per Gazzetta World:

Apparently Ronaldo’s luxurious new Manhattan loft, in the lavish Trump Tower building in New York, has been chosen as a location by the producers, and a small role was promised to the Los Blancos ace as a sweetener.

In the end Scorsese opted not to use Ronaldo, which has earned him a cool €10 million in compensation, though it has denied the 30-year-old his movie cameo with Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio.

Reports indicate that the producers’ u-turn was based on fears that Ronaldo would take up too much of the spotlight, and thus distract from the film. Actor Channing Tatum is believed to be the favourite to replace the Portuguese in the Hollywood flick.

Scorsese's next effort is based on the life of Alessandro Proto, an Italian millionaire thought to have inspired the character from Fifty Shades of Grey.

Sounds like the perfect role for Ronaldo.

Daily Mirror reports that Ronaldo will actually earn a cool €20million for giving up his penthouse apartment in New York for the movie, but definitely won't be getting a cameo.

Proto, the man the film is based upon, did not want the Portuguese superstar in the movie, but is happy to deliver the cash in person if that's what it takes to keep him off the silver screen.

He said, per the Mirror:

Ronaldo is a great player, but that doesn't mean he is the king of the world. I don't want him in a film about my life. Martin Scorsese is in agreement with me. Cristiano Ronaldo is not going to be in the film.

I am sorry if he doesn't feel valued, but in life you win some and you lose some. If I really have to give him €20million, I will give it to him with my own hands.

"
