Arsenal Transfer News: Jese Rodriguez Boost, Latest on Dani Ceballos Rumours

Rory MarsdenOct 16, 2015

Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign Real Madrid forward Jese Rodriguez in January on loan with a view to potentially making the deal permanent next summer.

According to Peter Martin in Spanish outlet Sport, Jese has become frustrated with his lack of game time at the Bernabeu, and the Gunners are set to offer him an escape in the new year.

Per WhoScored.com, the Spanish forward has played only 134 minutes of La Liga football this season—two starts and one appearance from the bench—in Real's nine fixtures.

His prospects of getting more game time are not good as he has a frosty relationship with manager Rafael Benitez, and he is thus looking to make a move away from the Bernabeu in January, with Napoli showing an interest in him along with Arsenal, per Martin.

The 22-year-old played a key part in Real's pre-season and impressed, suggesting he may have a bigger role to play in 2015-16 at Madrid, per the club's website.

However, he has been given few opportunities and a switch to Arsenal would seemingly be a good move for all involved.

Arsenal would be getting a very talented and versatile forward who could provide much-needed attacking depth to the Gunners squad as they head into the second half of the season, while Jese would undoubtedly be handed more first-team opportunities.

Equally, Real could benefit from Jese going out on loan as more game time would likely see him improve and the La Liga giants could then make a decision on whether to bring him back to the Bernabeu.

With Jese reportedly eager to leave Real and Los Blancos seemingly not having much need for him, Arsenal look well set to snap him up in January, and he could be a potentially important signing if they are serious about mounting a season-long title challenge.

The Gunners have been dealt a blow in their reported pursuit of another Spanish youngster with Dani Ceballos having signed a new contract with Real Betis, per Sport

The 19-year-old midfielder has effectively ended speculation over his future by signing a new contract with the Seville outfit until 2020—which includes a €15 million (£11 million) release clause—having previously been linked with Arsenal, per Darren Witcoop in the Mirror.

Per Spanish football writer David Cartlidge, Ceballos has made a sensible move in committing to Betis for the time being:

It is a blow for Arsenal—it would have been intriguing to see how Arsene Wenger deployed the youngster—but they will likely continue to keep tabs on Ceballos as his career in La Liga progresses.
