MICH. Wolverines Run Through E. MICH. Eagles 45-17
The Wolverine football team has never lost to the Eagles in there previous battle for Washtenaw County, Michigan crown. After last seasons shocking loss to a WAC team and a 3-9 season some fans wonder how long the Wolverines can keep their winning momentum this season.
The action took place once again at the Big House in Ann Arbor. Like last weeks first half against the Irish both teams pounded at each other's defense to keep the scoring close. Rather than use the passing game as an alternate to their fast and powerful running game the Wolverines took what the Eagles gave them on the ground.
The highlight of today's running game was Carlos Browns 90 yard run from scrimmage for TD, which allowed the Wolverines to leave the field at half-time 21-17. Tate Forcier started the game but his passing game was not what it was the past two games. As it stood his offense would not need great passing to win.
Coach Robinson, the Defensive Coordinator ironed out the kinks in the Wolverine defense during the half. The team defense allowed the Eagles only 28 yards in the 3rd quarter and no scores.
After having the wind knocked out of him Tate left the game and Denard Robinson took over at quarterback. This time he was allowed to pass. He would up being 0-4 on passing and throwing two interceptions, during the second half. Nonetheless, the improved second half defense continued its domination stifling the Eagles to nothing.
The Wolverine offense continued to roll down-field to score 24 more points on the ground. On the day Carlos Brown had a spectacular 13 carries for 187 yards. Denard Robinson had 3 carries for 60 yards and 2 TD's. The Wolverines ran for a total of 380 yards, while passing for only 68.
What I especially liked about this game is Coach Rodriguez got good looks at his depth chart utilizing many runners, receivers, and linemen on offense as well as defense. This team, though very young, is ready to win, and is very deep in talent on all levels. Despite some problems they adapt during games quickly to good coaching.
By the end of the game the Eagles were held to 296 yards total offense with 91 yards gained on the ground by DeWayne Priest at RB. Schmidt the QB would also throw two interceptions, and leave the game in the 4th quarter for what may be an ankle injury. I sure hope it isn't serious, and that he'll be back to play very soon.
The Wolverines, who are now 3-0, will prepare for their Homecoming opener against the Indiana Hoosiers, at the Big House next Saturday.
