WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from October 14

Erik BeastonOct 14, 2015

The theme of Wednesday's NXT was change, with new stories and performers debuting for the fans to digest.

Nia Jax followed up weeks of video packages with an impressive and destructive debut that left her poor opponent, Evie, lying.

Samoa Joe and Tyler Breeze kicked off a program in the middle of battle royal, which was won by Apollo Crews. The newcomer will now have the opportunity to wrest the NXT title from Finn Balor, who has been unstoppable since capturing the gold at the Beast in the East in July.

Bayley moved on as well, finding herself the object of Alexa Bliss' disrespect and attention.

With the brand being turned on its head, the audience was left on the edge of its collective seat.

Promo: Alexa Bliss Interrupts Bayley

1 of 4

What should have been a monumental celebration following the biggest victory of her career turned into a nightmare for Bayley, who was disrespected and subsequently challenged by Alexa Bliss.

With Blake and Murphy standing guard, Bliss ripped the title away from the champion and said the one thing they will not share is the NXT Women's Championship.

She tossed the title back to Bayley and strutted off, making her intentions to challenge for it abundantly clear.

Analysis

This may not have been the most exciting or dynamic segment, but it did what it intended to: establish Bliss as the new top contender to Bayley's women's title.

A great heel who immediately broke out of the pack the moment she began guiding Blake and Murphy, Bliss has flown under the radar. This was a great way to establish herself as a threat in the division, even if she figures to be the first Diva not named Sasha Banks to fall to Bayley.

The Vaudevillains vs. Sawyer Fulton and Angelo Dawkins

2 of 4

After missing out on the recent TakeOver: Respect special, the Vaudevillains returned to NXT to battle Sawyer Fulton and Angelo Dawkins.

Aiden English found himself isolated from Simon Gotch, left to endure the peppering of blows by Fulton and Dawkins.

A hot tag to Gotch and the Whirling Dervish secured the win for the NXT tag team champions.

Result

The Vaudevillains defeated Sawyer Fulton and Angelo Dawkins.

Grade

D+

Analysis

This was every other Vaudevillains squash since the team won the tag titles. English gets beat down for the majority, then makes the hot tag and the Whirling Dervish finishes. Lather, rinse and repeat.

The tag team is in desperate need of a boost, and it will get that in the form of Chad Gable and Jason Jordan if the writing staff is smart.

Nia Jax Debuts

3 of 4

International competitor Evie was the young woman unlucky enough to be the first opponent of the debuting Nia Jax, who wasted no time in establishing herself as the most dangerous woman in NXT this side of Asuka.

Jax punished her opponent with her size and power advantage, even overcoming a few late-match strikes.

In the end, she used a devastating one-armed spinebuster to score the victory.

Result

Nia Jax defeated Evie.

Analysis

This was a very suitable debut for Nia Jax, who figures to be the Awesome Kong of the division—a physically impressive woman whose size and strength make her a tough match up for any one of her peers.

Would this have meant even more against a more established opponent? Of course, but for her first night, Jax more than held up her end of the bargain.

No. 1 Contender's Battle Royal

4 of 4

The Superstars of NXT hit the squared circle for a No. 1 Contender's Battle Royal on Wednesday night to try and earn the opportunity to challenge Finn Balor for the world title in the near future.

Friendships were tested, as seen by Baron Corbin's double cross and elimination of Rhyno, while new feuds were ignited, as the world witnessed when Tyler Breeze was responsible for tossing Samoa Joe.

In the end, "Lone Wolf" Corbin and newcomer Apollo Crews were left to battle it out for the victory.

Defying odds, Crews scored the win and earned himself a shot at the top prize in the brand.

Result

Apollo Crews won the No. 1 Contender's Battle Royal.

Grade

C+

Analysis

Battle royals are generally pretty average, at best, and this was no different.

The outcome was a major surprise because Crews is so new and has not really had a defining feud that would suggest he is prepared to move up the ranks as quickly as he has.

Corbin could have benefited tremendously, especially since it would have freshened things up and allowed him to move on from the tired squash matches that have essentially turned him heel.

Breeze and Joe's interaction seems to set in motion a rivalry that will culminate in Prince Pretty losing another high-profile match.
