Texas HS Football Player Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Father

A high school football player in Sugar Land, Texas, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his father. 

According to Drew Karedes of KHOU 11 in Houston, the alleged incident reportedly occurred during a fight following the football team's practice:

According to the Sugar Land Police Department, it started with some sort of argument at the school at football practice. The teenage suspect is reportedly a junior at Clements and is on the varsity football team.

Investigators said that the boy's father found out he was not going to football practice and that he was not happy about his son's actions.

The report notes the argument "apparently continued at about 6 p.m." at the family house, with police saying the son "grabbed a knife and stabbed his 45-year-old father repeatedly in the stomach, the back and the arms."

Sugar Land Police Department spokesman Doug Adolph told Karedes that "there are some issues going on in this house; this just isn’t a normal situation."

One of the teenager's friends is quoted in Karedes' report as saying this feels very out of character from the person he knew. 

"I love him. We joke around on the field. He's a friend. We'd talk. You'd never hear him say no to anybody. He's always friendly," said the unnamed friend.

The 16-year-old is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has not cooperated with police and is not speaking with investigators, per Karedes' report. 

The name of the player has not been made public because he has not been charged as an adult, while the father is currently in stable condition.
