Why the Giants can cover the spread

New York has rebounded nicely from a disappointing 0-2 start, winning three straight to take the lead in the division. The Giants have finally found the right formula to finish games after blowing fourth-quarter leads in each of their losses. And they have done so without the power running game head coach Tom Coughlin likes to employ.

Fortunately, there is still plenty of time to evolve the offense to Coughlin’s standards, as the team should only get better as the season continues. Of course, it obviously helps to have a two-time Super Bowl winner under center in quarterback Eli Manning, who seems to finally be finding his groove off his best performance of the season against the San Francisco 49ers with 441 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Why the Eagles can cover the spread

Like New York, Philadelphia also started the season at 0-2, and the Eagles are fortunate to be just one game back in the race for the NFC East title. Both teams are taking advantage of the injury to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo now, even though they each lost to him over the first two weeks. Dallas has gone 0-3 since then.

Ironically, it is former Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray who has become the most important player in Philly’s offense. Murray led the NFL in rushing a year ago with Dallas and is coming off his best game with the Eagles, carrying the ball 20 times for 83 yards and catching seven passes for 37 yards in a 39-17 rout of the New Orleans Saints last week. The more Murray touches the ball, the better the team will be offensively.

Smart pick

Philadelphia has dominated this series lately, and there’s no reason to believe that won’t continue here in the first of two meetings this season. The Giants are hurting a bit on offense with starting wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle both nursing hamstring injuries. They were able to hold off San Francisco last Sunday night, but the Eagles will soar to another easy victory and cover in prime time this Monday.

Betting trends

The Eagles are 11-3 SU and ATS in their last 14 games against the Giants.

The Giants are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games on the road in October.

The Giants are 0-3 SU in their last three Monday night games.
