Kane's Dual Personality Character Has Helped Carry Feud with Seth Rollins

Tom ClarkOct 14, 2015

Kane's dual personality has been the focus of his heat with Seth Rollins in WWE.  The corporate side of him is being matched by his demonic side, and the two have combined in what can be called a twisted, yet fun ride.

It's that ride that's not only keeping many fans on board with the feud; it's actually saving it as well.

That particular outcome was perhaps not expected when this all began.  Rollins had faced three of the industry's top legends in the past few months; Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Sting.  WWE's top heel managed to outlast all three men and kept his WWE World Heavyweight Championship run intact.

Despite how many wanted to see him lose it, Rollins persevered and kept rolling.

Seth Rollins and Corporate Kane

Following up those three stars would not be an easy task, but WWE fans were surely ready for it.  The top title should always be spotlighted in high-profile rivalries, and the company had an impressive track record of doing that for Rollins.

But Kane was likely not the man believed to be next in line.

From a storyline perspective, the move made perfect sense.  From a real-world standpoint, virtually no one wanted to see it happen.  It was not meant to disrespect Kane, however; The Big Red Machine's main event track record is well known among the WWE faithful.

Putting him back in his customary ring gear may have brought back the nostalgia for fans, but it was not enough to convince them the move was right to make.  He just didn't have the same star power as the three guys that came before him.

But he changed all of that, and he did it with a smile.

Kane's role as Director of Operations suddenly became less stressful and more comical. With a goofy grin on his face and a coffee cup in his hands, Kane became the good-hearted nice guy that had the best of intentions when it came to Rollins.

Kane pulled the swerve and was very convincing when he did it.  His reactions may have been tongue-in-cheek, but his character seemed to truly be unaware of his other side raising hell at Rollins' expense.

Fans laughed in spite of the ridiculous nature of it all and before long, the angle got over.  The truth is without Kane, it would not be over at all.

A straight feud with Kane versus Rollins for the gold based on revenge is just not enough.  Fans want more, and there's just not more to give here.  So the only way to keep them interested is to allow Kane to do what he does best; entertain.  That is exactly what he's doing.

The happy corporate personality is a smoke screen for the evil demonic personality thirsty for vengeance and as silly as that sounds, Kane is making it work.  The crowd sees through it because they know Kane is using mind games to make Rollins crazy.  The Big Red Monster is playing Rollins, and he's driving him insane while doing it.

The two will face off at Hell in a Cell for the title, and fans should see the final payoff in this rivalry. Rollins will turn in a top-notch performance as always, and Kane will surely deliver on his end as well.  The match itself should be good, and watching Rollins try to escape his fate will undoubtedly be very entertaining.

Kane may or may not walk out with the championship, but it may not matter that much at all.  Fans know they will get a good match, and both men will live to fight another day.

This may not be Lesnar versus Rollins or Cena versus Rollins, but it really doesn't need to be.  Kane is doing his part to hold this together and despite how it concludes, he will surely be the reason fans stay with it to the end.
