Couple Takes a Break from Running to Get Married During Chicago Marathon

Kyle NewportOct 12, 2015

Winning the race certainly would have been quite an accomplishment, but one couple decided to make the 2015 Chicago Marathon an experience they'd never forget.

How? They got married—in the middle of the race.

Stephanie Reinhart and Mark Jockel ran nearly a third of the race before stopping at Mile 8. There, the couple tied the knot.

According to NBC Chicago, there was a reason the couple got married at Mile 8. The two met back in 2013 in a running group, and both ran in the eight-minute-mile-pace group.

The unusual wedding idea was the perfect compromise for this couple. Here's how Reinhart explained the idea, per NBC Chicago:

"

I wanted a little wedding, and Mark wanted a big wedding. My colleague suggested that we get married during the marathon, and it was perfect: I get a short and sweet ceremony, and Mark gets several thousand guests.

"

As you can imagine, the rehearsal dinner featured pasta to help the runners carbo load for the race.

The couple had to wait to celebrate their big day, however, because they still had 18 miles to run. What a wild way to begin their life together.
