Barcelona Transfer News: Fresh Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marquinhos Rumours

Rob BlanchetteOct 12, 2015

Barcelona are interested in Borussia Dortmund's prolific striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the Blaugrana said to be scouting the player amid interest from Liverpool.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Adam Smith of the Daily Mail) said Barca coach Luis Enrique is "keeping tabs" on the Bundesliga talent, with the newspaper sharing their cover on social media:

The Sun reported Aubameyang is also a target for Liverpool as new Reds coach Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in his former player to join his Anfield revolution.

The Gabon attacker has started the German season well for BVB, who are looking to have a much better campaign after last year's disappointments, as the team flirted with the relegation zone.

Aubameyang has 10 goals from only eight league starts this season, per Smith, making him one of the hottest strikers in Europe.

Hoffenheim's Bosnian defender Ermin Bicakcic (R) and Dortmund's Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang vie for the ballduring the German first division Bundesliga football match TSG 1899 Hoffenheim vs Borussia Dortmund in Sinsheim, on September 23, 20

However, Klopp has publicly refuted he will return to his old club to raid their best talent, opening the door for the Camp Nou giants, per Bild (h/t Stefan Coerts of Goal.com):

"

I have no intention whatsoever to lure Dortmund's stars to Liverpool. I am not interested in how much money I will be allowed to spend in January. It is only October and I don't even know how many games there are left until the winter. But we clearly have plenty of games left and we will be taking a look at our own players first.

"

OptaFranz highlighted the striker's recent consistency, as he equalled a long-standing German goal record:

Aubameyang would offer Barca the option of adding a top goalscorer to their ranks to supplement Luis Suarez's threat, but the player's ability to feature as an attacking midfielder makes him a desirable option. Barcelona are reliant on the holy trinity of Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi, but after the departure of Pedro to Chelsea, they need a consistent talent to add to their attack.

Barca to Battle Jose Mourinho for Marquinhos

Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos is subject to interest from Barcelona and Premier League champions Chelsea, with both teams keen on his signature in January.

French news outlet Le10Sport.com (h/t Mark Brus of Metro) claim the PSG centre-back's lack of games at the Parc des Princes has fuelled speculation of bids from Europe's elite.

Both Barca and Chelsea have displayed defensive frailties in the opening weeks on the new campaign, and the player's ability would be welcome at either club at present.

Thiago Silva and David Luiz are the central figures at the French capital team, leaving the much-admired defender on the bench.

Football writer Sergi Dominguez added humour to Barcelona's search for a new centre-back, with Mundo Deportivo adding fuel to the rumour mill:

Marquinhos is one of the best young defenders on the continent, and his availability will be monitored by the elite clubs in Europe if PSG decide to sell.

It would be bad business if the French team opted to lose the player in favour of Silva and the calamitous Luiz, with Marquinhos assured to step into the starting XI of any prospective new employer.

Barca must ensure they do not tread water in the coming months, sticking with the players they have after having their hands tied by transfer sanctions.

If the Brazilian is available at any price, Enrique should do what it takes to beat Chelsea to the punch and steal his signature from the opposition.
