Liverpool Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski, Andre Ayew and Jurgen Klopp Rumours

Christopher SimpsonOct 11, 2015

Liverpool's new manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly hoping to sign his former player and current Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.

That's according to the Mirror's Simon Mullock, who added that "Lewandowski’s agent has hinted that the striker’s future will not be with Bayern Munich."

Klopp managed the Pole at Borussia Dortmund before he joined Munich and played a key role in the striker's development into one of the world's best.

Further, B/R columnist Clark Whitney believes the previously underrated striker to be the world's best No. 9:

Though Liverpool are currently a step down from Bayern, if the 27-year-old is to depart the Bundesliga giants he could well be tempted to link up with his former mentor, whose reputation ensures a level of pulling power former boss Brendan Rodgers never had.

It would be a phenomenal and expensive coup, but Lewandowski could transform the club into instant title contenders.

The Sunday People's Tom Hopkinson reported that Klopp is also eager to recruit Swansea City star Andre Ayew having previously targeted him at BVB.

The Ghanaian has lit up the Premier League with four goals, and the winger could make an excellent replacement for Raheem Sterling, who left Liverpool for Manchester City in the summer.

Having just joined the Swans, though, the 25-year-old isn't likely to move again until at least next summer, and prising him away from the Liberty Stadium will undoubtedly be a difficult and expensive task.

Lastly, the German is also aiming to make changes further back as he is reportedly seeking a replacement for Simon Mignolet. Per Calciomercato (via the Mirror's Aaron Flanagan), the two candidates are German duo Bernd Leno and Loris Karius—two potential long-term successors of Manuel Neuer for the national side.

Mignolet has had plenty of ups and downs at Anfield since joining from Sunderland and questions firmly remain over his ability to help Liverpool launch a title challenge in the future.

The highly coveted Leno and Karius are both still young, but they have great potential and would likely offer an upgrade on the Belgian.

Liverpool make use of a "transfer committee" who play a significant role in their recruitment of new players. According to the Mirror's Hamish Mackay, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is firmly against the idea of such committees, arguing in a column in the Sun on Sunday:

"I have no idea why any club would rely on a transfer committee. If you want to be successful you let your manager decide. If you're not prepared to give him that responsibility, you might as well ask the transfer committee to coach the team."

However, Klopp has already agreed to work with the committee at Anfield. According to Hopkinson, he said: "For me it is enough to have the first and the last word, the middle we can discuss everything. We only want to discuss very good players."

As the German seemingly has the power to approve or veto any transfer at the club, he should be free to pursue his chosen targets such as Lewandowski or Ayew.

The club will need to seriously improve on their recruitment after plenty of questionable signings were made under predecessor Brendan Rodgers and even well before him dating back to the £35 million capture of Andy Carroll.

From the reported targets Liverpool seem to be aiming for players who can significantly add to the side, though, so if they are able to land any of them they'll reap the rewards on the pitch as they pursue their ambition of Premier League glory.
