When a defense has a player like Clay Matthews, opponents go to great lengths to prepare for him.
Really, really great lengths.
Ahead of their matchup with the Green Bay Packers this Sunday, the St. Louis Rams had linebacker Daren Bates don a flowing yellow mane and a No. 52 jersey in practice.
This wasn’t some kind of joke, either. Look at what head coach Jeff Fisher said, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner:
He’s a little shorter than Clay. He moves around; he’s watched Clay. I’m sure he grew up watching Clay and has a great deal of respect for Clay. Obviously we need to know where he is every snap so that’s why we dressed him up a little bit.
So this was 100 percent by design. Do we really think it will make much of a difference?
