Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Bruno Martins Indi, Marcos Rojo Rumours

Christopher SimpsonOct 10, 2015

Manchester United are reportedly considering selling Marcos Rojo as early as the January transfer window, with Porto's Bruno Martins Indi targeted as his replacement.

That's according to the Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst, who added that the Argentinian defender's relationship with manager Louis van Gaal has deteriorated in recent months for a variety of reasons, including the 25-year-old's supposed lack of professionalism after he missed their pre-season tour of the U.S. and returned to the club after the Copa America overweight.

Bleacher Report columnist Sam Pilger revealed his admiration for the defender in the summer and believed it "inconceivable" they would sell him:

Luckhurst is also a fan of Rojo but admitted there are issues that could prompt the Red Devils to try to recoup their outlay on him:

Despite Luke Shaw's recent leg break, Rojo has played just one Premier League game all season—the victory over Southampton on September 20.

Rojo didn't impress in the match, failing to win a single tackle and winning just one headed duel, according to Squawka.

In sharp contrast to Rojo, Martins Indi enjoys an overwhelmingly positive relationship with Van Gaal stretching back to the coach's tenure as Netherlands manager, and the Reds Devils have scouted the 23-year-old, according to Luckhurst.

Luckhurst also shared evidence of their relationship:

Further, his report included quotes of an exchange between Van Gaal and the player, in which Martins Indi asked the United manager to help him improve as a player. The 64-year-old responded positively and added, "I love you already, Bruno."

Like Rojo, the Dutchman is capable of filling in at centre-back or left-back.

He's not yet the finished article but possesses good physicality and strong technical skills, which could see him cope well with the rigours of the Premier League.

There's still time for Rojo to justify his place in United's squad before January, and with Shaw out for the foreseeable future, he will likely get more opportunities in the coming months. But if he isn't able to do so soon, it's not inconceivable that United will cut their losses.
