Senators Have Depth, But Is It Enough?
Much has been written about the tailspin the Ottawa Senators have endured over the past two seasons. I for one consider myself an eternal optimist, and that is why I am wondering if this may just be the year that many of the critics are silenced. Not much is expected from the squad for the 2009-2010 season, which means that for the first time in nearly five years, the Senators have a chance to sneak into the playoffs by staying under the radar, and I believe will cause some damage if they are able to do just that.
Sure they are without the likes of Heatley, Vermette and others, but Bryan Murray has given this team some real depth. Consider that they have added Alex Kovalev, Jordan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek this summer, essentially for Dany Heatley. Admittedly, the trio seemed inconsistent with their former clubs, but if they play up to their potential, Ottawa has 3 pretty solid lines. Add a possible stand-out goaltender (if he stays healthy) and I am excited about the possibilities.
